The role will include providing expert advice on the cognitive aspects of human performance to a range of programmes, quality assurance, conducting sensitive human performance research, and Technical Partnering.
The Human and Social Sciences Group, in Dstl, delivers, and facilitates the delivery of, future-focused human and social science research and consultancy to MOD and other government departments. Our work informs policy and maximises the performance of whole systems for Defence and Security. The group have a vacancy for a Contractor to support the Cyber Human Science sub-capabilty within the Group in delivering MOD funded research. The requirement is for a contractor with SC, who has appropriate human science skills, knowledge and experience. They will be required to have a strong background in cognitive psychology with particular knowledge and experience in theories and concepts related to sense making, situational awareness and decision making, in applied environments. The contractor will be required to lead on a package of work, but also work as part of a team with other Dstl human scientists (including psychologists and cultural specialists) to deliver. They will be expected to engage directly with the customer to understand their requirements and the military context, and to work closely with the other projects and programmes for mutual benefit Work with customers to understanding and refine their research requirements. Design, plan and conduct appropriate research that responds to customer requirements. Conduct literature searches, assess the quality of existing research and its implications. Lead research tasks, working with, mentoring and advising other team members. Work across projects and programmes, exploiting opportunities to deliver research efficiently and effectively. Brief military personnel and project teams when required. Prepare technical reports in a format that is suitable to the target audience/s. Deliver research findings, provide recommendations and offer solutions that meet the needs of the customer.
