Job Purpose

We want to make sure that every child in our area is safe from harm and neglect and, wherever possible, brought up by their own family. We know that while systems and processes are important, the real key to helping children and their families is empathy. It’s knowing when to challenge, and when to support. It’s about helping children to live independent lives using judgement rather than paperwork. Which is why we’re looking for more Social Workers with the skills to get to the bottom of things and make a lasting difference. As a Social Worker with us, you’ll look at each case and assess, plan, implement and evaluate action or treatment. Your main focus will be on helping children and their families to cope with social, emotional and environmental problems so they can live their lives as fully as possible in the community. You’ll need relevant qualifications and a good understanding of the systems and processes that enable organisations like ours to protect children

Skills, Knowledge and Essentials 

  • Knowledge Of Child Development, Child Protection Procedures And Risk To Children 
  • Supervisory People Management, Particularly Supervision And Personal Development 
  • Professionally & Personally Accountable And Required To Carry Out A High Degree Of Autonomy And Professional Judgement.
  • Computer Literate 
  • Must have excellent people skills and relate well to people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability To Deal With Sensitive Issues
  • Professional qualification in social work i.e. Dip SW, CQSW, CSS or social work degree 
  • Current Full Driving Licence & Willing & Able To Provide A Vehicle For Use On Council Business 
  • Experience Of Supporting And Leading Organisational Change 
  • Knowledge Of Child Protection Policies And Procedures
  • Good Interpersonal And Training Skills 
  • Strong assessment Skills 
  • Analytical Skills 
  • Ability To Plan And Organise Own Workload To Meet Targets And Deadlines 
  • Nvq Level 3 In Health & Social Care
  • Concise And Clear Report Writing 
  • Enhanced CRB/DBS Within Last 12 Months 
  • Ability To Manage Workload And Work As Part Of A Team 
  • Experience of assessing and reviewing a service user's situation 
  • Change Management
  • Ability To Pass Information Accurately Between Colleagues Other Agencies And Partners 
  •  Three years post-qualifying experience in work with children and families, in a statutory child care agency. 
  • Knowledge of Child Development
  •  Gscc Registered 
  •  Excellent Verbal And Written Communication Skills
  •  At least 4 years experience within children's Qualified Social Care 
  • Ability To Work As Part Of A Small Team And On Own Initiative
